Trash Hunter Category Rules




  1. The area that the robots will be inside is a square of 2 x 2 m, with its base in black  color. Outside of this area will be a white colored region of 5 cm thickness. For detailed information, please look at the drawings of category.

  2. In the area there will be 10 trash items (empty tin soda can, which is cut at 5 cm height)  in total.

  3. The horizontal trash cans will be located at each edge of the area. The horizontal trash cans may be at various distances from the corners, the given figure is only an example. There will be 3 cm long white colored lines spaced 5 cm away from each other and located perpendicularly in the area in front of the trash cans. The width of these lines is 2 cm.

  4. The dimensions of a horizontal trash can is as follows; height 10 cm, depth 30 cm, width 20 cm. The opening of the trash can is directed to the area.

  5. The vertical trash can, located at the center of the area, is a cylinder of a 20 cm radius and 15 cm height. The opening of the vertical trash can is directed upwards.

  6. It is forbidden to harm the trash cans and the area. Robots that do not  obey these rules are disqualified.

  7. Total competition time is 5 minutes, the points will be calculated at the end of this time. In case of a tie, the robot to reach the points in a shorter time interval is placed above the others.

  8. Robots that come out of this area will be punished with a 15 point penalty.

  9. If the robot falls over and cannot move, the referee puts it an appropriate place and it will be punished with 25 points.

  10. If the robot do not move for 30 seconds, it will be located at an appropriate place by the referee. Then it will continue.

  11. During the competition, if any trash item goes out of the area (except the horizontal trash cans), robot will be punished with 10 points and the item will be located at an appropriate place by the referee.

  12. For  the first trash item that is put into each trash can(One vertical trash can and four horizontal trash cans),the points are equal and are 100 points.This first trash bonus can only be used for five trash items,each of which is put into a different trash can. But these first trash items willnot be included in the cumulative point systems which are defined in the rule number  #15 and rule number #16.(eg: calculation for a robot which put 4 trash items together at the beginning to a horizontal trash can is considered as follows :for the first item that is put 100 points + for other three items that are put together 150 points = total 250 points)

  13. The other trash items(for each items after the first trash item and assuming every item is put into the can one by one) that is put into horizontal trash cans are 30 points for each item.

  14. The other trash items(for each items after the first trash item and assuming every item is put into the can one by one) that is put into vertical trash cans are 50 points for each item.

  15. Number of items put into vertical trash can together 

    2 items        120 pts
    3 items        200 pts
    4 items        300 pts
    If more than 4 items are put into the vertical trash can together, eacg item is graded with 80 points.

  16. Number of items put into horizontal trash can together

    2 items        100 pts
    3 items        150 pts
    4 items        200 pts
    If more than 4 items are put into the horizontal trash can together, each item is graded with 60 points.

  17. Robots participating in the competition must be autonomous.

METU Robotics Society holds its right to make changes in the rules without any justification, when necessary.

Objections to the decisions will be taken into account only in written application form.
The written applications are submitted to the organization committee. The committee 
will meet at the beginning of every hour and discuss the submitted written applications.
The final decisions, not to accept any further objections, will be announced as soon as possible.
