Slaloming Category
International METU Robotics Days 2012 Slaloming Category Rules
1- The
aim is to reach to “turn obstacle” (the furthest barrier to starting point) by
slaloming (passing the consecutive barriers,
which are aligned in the same direction, from different
sides; as, from left of one barrier, then from right of the next one, or vice
versa) and to make a U-turn from “the turn obstacle” in accordance with the
right-left order and to come back to starting point in the shortest time
again by slaloming; without leaving the track and without touching the barriers.
2- The
track is
3- There will be 7 barriers having
the dimensions of 10x10x10, 10x15x10, 10x20x10 cm (width x length x height)
4- The barriers will be situated in
the very middle of the track in a linear position.
5-
The
“turn
obstacle”, which the robots will make a U-turn around,
has the dimensions of 15x15x15 cm and will be placed
6- The
distribution of the barriers in the track will be determined by drawing, after
the robots that are going to compete are taken under surveillance. No robots
will be included in the competition after the drawing. If there is any robots
taken out from surveillance, that robots will be excluded.
7- The
distance between two barriers will be at least
8- The
distance between two barriers can be at most
9- Between
the barriers, in the very middle of the track, there will be a white line
having
10- There
is no limitation for width, length, height and weight of robots
11- Any
robot that is out of the track will begin the race again. The robots which are
out of the track three times will disqualified.
12- Any
robot that touches the barriers will be fined for 20 seconds for each barrier.
If the robot crashes the barrier and stops* it will be put to the middle of the
barrier it crashed and the previous barrier, in a linear position to the
barriers and be fined for 30 seconds. If the robot crashes the same barrier and
stops 3 times in a row, it will be disqualified.
13- Any
robot that touches the “turn obstacle” will be fined for 25 seconds. If the
robot crashes the “turn obstacle” and stops* it will be put to the middle of
the barrier before and the “turn obstacle”, in a linear position to the
barriers and be fined for 35 seconds. If the robot crashes the “turn obstacle” and
stops 3 times in a row, it will be disqualified.
14- Any
robot that passes from the same side of 2 consecutive barriers will be fined
for 30 seconds.
15- Any
robot that passes from the same side of 3 consecutive barriers will be fined
for 50 seconds.
16- Any
robot that passes from the same side of 4 consecutive barriers will be given
the chance to start over the race again. If the same thing occurs, the robot
will be disqualified.
17- Any
robot has the right to violate the 14th rule just for two times and 15th rule
just for 1 time. The robots exceeding these limits will be given the chance to
start over the race again. If the limit exceeding occurs again, the robot will
be disqualified.
18- Any
robot that comes back to the starting point turning not around “the turn
obstacle” but around any of barriers, will be given the second chance to begin
the race. If robot repeats the same mistake, it will be disqualified.
19- Any
robot that gives harm to track will be excluded from the race. (e.g. crashing
the barriers and ripping it.)
20- After
the name of the robot is announced, the owner of the robot will have 3 minutes
to come to the place of race. If the owner does not come, the robot will be disqualified.
21- After
the drawing of track, no addition to or subtraction from robots that are taken
under surveillance can be done. Robots will not be given to the owner, till its
time for racing comes.
22- No
time will be given to the the owner to fix the robot if there occurs any
breakdown or trouble with the robot during the race.
23- Robots
have to be autonomous. The robots that are not aoutonomous will not be taken to
the race.
24- The
duration of the race is 5 minutes.
25- In
ordering, finishing time and fines determined by
the referees will be taken into consideration.
METU Robotics Society holds its right to make changes in the rules
without any justification, when necessary.
Objections to the decisions will be taken into account only in written
application form. The written applications are submitted to the organization
committee. The committee will meet at the beginning of every hour and discuss
the submitted written applications. The final decisions, not to accept any
further objections, will be announced as soon as possible.
To Crash and Stop* <
Means the robot being unable to move for 15 seconds after crashing the
turnstile or any barrier.>
